Five trips planned so far! We have family living on the Island, so we do go more than the average traveler. I absolutely love this picture. We spent one early morning a couple summers ago with two grandsons sitting on this dock watching freight boats unload. That is a priceless memory.

Been once and very much want to come back this Spring. When is the best time and where to stay? Just me, one adult - in love with Mackinac.

Mackinac Island is one of my picks for a honeymoon... someday... when my lack of debt and job security finally makes marriage economically sensible.

I'll be there May 13th!

🙋🏻‍♀️ Already planned! See you in June

I hate it when he expects us to parallel park on our own.

We are sure gonna miss that old tree 😢 with it’s leaves so green in spring 🌿the welcomed shade🌳in summer, awesome autumn 🍂 colored leaves in the fall and the steadfast branches that endured the cold 🌬winter breezes of winter ❄️ Good bye dear tree 🌳

It's off to work we go, its off to work we go, delivering the fudge everyone loves, it's off to work we go!! 😁

hold your horses and wagon im headed to Original Murdick's Fudge to get some of their great tasting fudge since they are open

Why do they keep putting speed limit signs up when us horses can't read or measure how fast we go.

Are you thinking what I’m thinking? Fudge run!!!

So... exactly how do you expect us to reach this posted speed limit if we're tied to this dang pole.... makes no sense, George. ( yes, I just named one of the horses George lol)

Who's this person named speed and why does he or she have a limit. (Ha, Ha, look at my last name if you don't get it.)

Sorry we can't go 20 mph or we will have to go to the Medical Center!

"Hey know Murdicks Fudge is the opposit way?"

I didn’t know we where going over the speed limit!

I told you to slow down! Now we have no passengers and have to look at the speed limit sign as punishment.

Hurry up and get me to the fudge shop I only gained 10lbs during the winter and need to catch up for summer

Good thing they tied that pole to us, it was trying to get away, so it could get the first fudge at Murdick's!

Forget the Budweiser Clydesdales... I am following them to the fudge !!

Ready and willing to explore the great turtle island

Maybe he’s sick he had to fudge and had to run to the medical center that’s why he took off and we ended in this odd spot.

I can’t wait any more “Open open open” Well it worked at other stores

I guess he doesn't want to chase after us again he tied us to the darn post ...

Horse 1: We’re first in line for the fudge. Horse 2: Yep, but not for long.

Time for a fudge break and many more to come!!

All hitched up and nowhere to go!

Man, pulling a stagecoach and a load of garbage? these guys are working us like horses!

We just pulled up that huge hill and we deserve a long rest.

Wait right here. I will get the fudge and coffee!

Thanks for these updates, it's great to see them with snow on the ground. Do you get the same horses every year?

Original Murdick's Fudge

We are sad to see our majestic friend go...MACKINAC LAND MARK TO COME DOWN TOMORROW MORNING

The old elm tree that has sat for well over 100 years at the corner of Marquette Park is slated to come down tomorrow morning.

The tree, an American Elm, has provided a shady place to sit for hundreds of thousands of folks over the years.
Despite efforts to save the tree through pruning and tree surgeons, arborist have conveyed to the State Park that the tree has now become a hazzard and that limbs and branches coming down will become more regular and dangerous. It was agreed the safest thing to do is take the tree down.

I cannot begin to convey the number of locals and local characters who have had their morning coffee or lunch under this tree. A real popular meeting place, which I'm sure it will continue to be, but be just a touch different. Sad it is to see it go, nothing lives forever, not even trees. Locals and visitors alike will miss the ol gal. This photo was taken this morning when I got word of the plan to take the tree down. So long old friend.

The tree probably was there when my mom lived on the island as a child! She just passed in 2016 at the age of 95. We had just been to the island the weekend before for Winsome Women at the Grand, and walked past here to see her old house up from St. Anne's, she actually attended the indian school also!

I've seen some beautiful sculptures cut from trees in Michigan. Have they considered doing something like that?

They should build tables and bench out of that wood for the same spot with a plack

Why can’t the branches be cabled so if they break off they don’t fall? It’s what we did with the majestic trees in our yard.

Wonder how it survived Dutch elm disease years ago...maybe because on the island? Are there other elms on the island? Hope they do an official ring count once they cut it down. Wood may be salvaged for furniture or carving? Elms that survived the disease are being propagated in some states to restore elms to forests.

We’ve spent many hours sitting under that tree and “people watching” when we vacation there. So sad. I hope they plant something beautiful there.

So sad this tree has to be taken down. I have many find memories and pictures taken under this magnificent tree.

Why not make a sculpture out of it? Use small rocks from the area and imbed them into the tree. Make symbols, or design. Even possibly mosaic tiles. The tree will be " alive again" with people helping with this activity. Just a thought.

We sat there as well ,,, so heartbreaking. Hopefully another tree can take its place! Save some viable wood for local craftsmen? My husband makes walking sticks, maybe someone local also does? Sad to see a landmark leave 😞

I stood under that tree a couple years ago my last visit to the island.

Maybe they can repurpose the wood.

Love that tree. But, I came within ten feet of being flattened by half of a huge old willow tree in our yard last year. It's sad but better to cut it down than have it kill someone.

Take's a shame. The Gun Smoke Tree of Mackinac Island.

Very sad! It will be missed. That shade was appreciated!

I hope they have planted some if its' seeds.

Have sat under that tree many times over the past 40 years.

Well, that will definitely change the landscape...

Thanks mr. elm for sharing your time with us

Hope they plant a good size tree, not a twig

I loved sitting under that tree.

Sad! Hope you are replacing it with another shade tree

One of my shady spots let her live

Sat under her branches many time's. Sorry to see her go !

I took a picture of it last summer 🙁
