Immerse yourself in the historic charm that has made Mackinac Island famous when you stay at the Harbour View Inn – a hotel with a fascinating history of its own.
Located only a short walk from the best attractions on Michigan’s Mackinac Island, yet away from the bustling traffic of downtown, this relaxing hotel complex offers the perfect romantic retreat. Wander to the nearby docks and watch yachts sail into the tranquil harbor or take a short stroll along historic streets where the finest shops and restaurants on Mackinac Island await.
Harbour View Inn is comprised of four unique buildings designed for a variety of styles and tastes. Our main building, Chateau LaFramboise, is furnished in an elegant blend of French and Victorian decor.
This home was once owned by Madame Magdelaine LaFramboise, an inspirational woman who defied the odds to become one of the most successful fur traders in the territory during the 19th Century.
The Carriage House and Guest house buildings are located behind Chateau LaFramboise and separated by a secluded, beautifully landscaped courtyard. Both decorated in a cottage theme.
Our fourth building, The Cottage at the Harbour View Inn, was added to our property in 2010 and is located to the west of the other three buildings.Still a part of the Harbour View Inn, sitting street side, offering its own wrap around front porch and intimate breakfast/common area.
All accommodations offer views of the magnificent harbor, exquisitely manicured courtyard or nearby historic buildings.

Eating a lot of fudge while spending the weekend on Mackinac Island was inevitable, so I tried to make it into a learning experience by comparing the different types while I was at it. Overall Murdick’s fudge has a more mature and complex flavor and texture, while Ryba’s and Joann’s have softer fudge with a simpler, but still delicious, flavor. Here’s the breakdown:
~ rybasfudge is the softest and smoothest. All three flavors, chocolate peanut butter, plain chocolate, and sea salt caramel were delicious, with the sea salt caramel being the favorite in my family because of the nice balance between salty and sweet. I enjoyed the chocolate peanut butter, but if you don’t love the peanut butter flavor or want a lighter fudge, I would suggest getting a different flavor since the peanut butter mixed with the already very sweet fudge might be too rich for some people’s taste.
~ joannsfudge is still soft, but, at least in the double dark chocolate that I tried, has a slightly grainer texture. The double dark chocolate had a less sweet flavor than the regular chocolate, which is good if you don’t like things that are too sweet.
~ originalmurdicks has the biggest texture difference. It has a grainier texture, which some people thought made it better than other kinds that were smoother, and is firmer, as you can see in the video. The plain chocolate also had a more caramelly flavor.
What is Mackinac Island’s biggest export?
Mackinac Island is iconic for its Victorian houses, horse drawn carts and bicycles. But what really makes the island tick, drives its economy and has secured its place in Michigan tourism, is the fudge.
This island, with only 500 residents, is home to more than a dozen fudge shops ready to serve the 1 million annual visitors. On peak summer tourist days, visitors collectively buy over 10,000 pounds of fudge per day. To keep up with this intense demand, the island imports 10 tons of sugar and 1 ton of butter every week.

Amish Wedding Foods and Mackinac Island Fudge, ...
Our trip to Mackinac Island was around sometime end of September and by that time, fall has already started in the Midwest. After we passed the light house tower while onboard starlinemackinacislandferry, right before our port on the island, we had this amazing view of the Ste. Anne Catholic Church surround by some of the greatest fall colors I’ve ever seen. Every since I took this picture, I was very excited to post it. I’ll post a close up of the church later as I get more into talking about the Island!
